Career Workbench / Local web application
Career research and resume drafting in a local workspace
Career Workbench helps a person recover experience, compare career directions and write resumes from a saved record of their work. The agent can ask follow-up questions, inspect sources, edit claims and render a profile. The same records are editable in the browser.

An example with shared credit and an uncertain metric
A returns coordinator has a useful process-improvement story, but the first account combines their work with a team timing estimate. The follow-up establishes what they owned and what the numbers can support.
Source account
Those were our manager’s estimates from two monthly meetings, not a report. Finance also added an approver that month. I owned the form and the exception meeting, not credit approval. The tracker did cover all three branches.
Remove the unsupported reduction claim
That sentence overstates both ownership and measurement. The correction should flag any profile using the speed claim. Retain the original account and previous exports so the change is explainable.
Team metric · needs review
Cut credit-processing time from nine days to six by redesigning the returns process.
- Confirmed scope: three branches
- Credit approval: Finance
- Concurrent change: another approver joined
The three-branch scope is usable. A precise percentage reduction is not justified by these estimates.
Fixed, self-authored fictional example. It is not a customer record or a recorded model response.
How the agent works with the record
Discovery and research
The agent uses the current account to choose a follow-up question or an evidence lookup. It can compare possible directions and suggest work to fill a gap. A planned project stays distinct from a demonstrated accomplishment.
Corrections
Sources are preserved. Correcting a claim marks dependent profiles and planning records for review, including indirect dependencies. Previous exports retain the sources and wording they used.
Tools and persistence
Codex provides the model-directed loop. MCP tools are scoped to one workspace; general shell and filesystem access are disabled. Chats, jobs and completed changes persist across browser refreshes and interrupted runs.
PDF review
Typst renders the profile with fixed templates. The app checks text, fonts, metadata, page limits and short wrapped lines. The reviewer can inspect the page and each claim’s source; passing geometry checks does not judge the writing.
What has been exercised
Chromium and Firefox checks cover uploads, structured editing, interviews, background rendering and PDF review. Separate live Codex exercises use fictional accounts to inspect tool choices and saved records. They verify an application workflow, not career outcomes.
Verification notes ↗Run the localhost UI
With the prerequisites installed, including an already authenticated Codex CLI:
git clone https://github.com/russedavid/career-workbench.git
cd career-workbench
uv sync --frozen
uv run career-workbench web Open http://127.0.0.1:5010, create a workspace and add source material. The app uses the saved Codex login. Relevant context is sent to the selected model; local records and exports stay in a private directory outside the code checkout.
